When I got into building DIY cameras, I spent good amount of time search on the web for my next project. There were a lot of instructions on matchbox pinhole cameras. But cardboard HasselBlad pinhole camera caught my attention.
Unfortunately, I was not able to find good instructions to actually build one on my own. However, Kelly Angood has come up with Videre and Viddy card box cameras through Kickstarter projects. Videre takes 120mm films and resembles TRL camera and Viddy takes either 120mm or 35mm films and resembles a vintage Kodak Brownie camera. Both of them are pinhole cameras.
Other than few aluminum pins and plastic, everything is made out of cardboard. I used tapes that came with the kits and some glue.
Though both kids come with good instruction and pre-cut pieces, it is quite difficult to build/tape/glue pieces nicely. Videre especially was difficult to build. Viddy definitely made great improvements though it was still difficult.
While these cameras can be used to take pinhole photos, I have not used them and do not intend to use them. They are, especially Videre is, little flimsy for my liking for taking photos. They look pretty good sitting on my shelf and being good conversation pieces.
