I am sure a lot of you have seen pictures similar to ones here.  Yes, Horse Shoe Bend is one of the most iconic images in US, and thousands and thousands of people have photographed them and uploaded their images everywhere online. But I had to see it in person and capture it myself.

When I visited Arizona in April, 2014, I decided to take an overnight trip by myself to visit Page, Arizona to photograph Horse Shoe Bend and Antelope Canyon.  I lucked out on the weather, and I was able to capture photos here.

As this place has become highly popular especially with the rise of Instagram, I would highly recommend getting there hours before sunset and scout the best spot to capture your shots.  Also, it can be pretty windy and chilly even in April.  You should dress appropriately, bring a chair, and drink/snack along with a book to spend time comfortably until the golden hour.

What to bring:

  • Wide angle lens: I used Tokina Tokina 12mm - 24mm f/4 PRO DX
  • Tripod is a must
  • Graduated Neutral Density filter

Pros:

  • Beautiful and iconic place.  It is breath taking.
  • Sunset here is majestic.

Cons:

  • Middle of nowhere.  Unless you have a lot of time to commit to this spot or go to Antelope Canyon as well, it is not a convenient location.
  • Now it is very popular and can get very clouded.
